THE TALENT
AND BEYOND
Ladies and Gentlemen,
At the end of gathering that lasted for two days, exchanging personal
experiences and ideas regarding the music education - cherishing and
promoting young talents, I would like to thank all of You, the
participants of this round-table discussion. To thank You for bringing
here, in Macedonia, part of Your human thoughts, part of Your love for
the music art, the young people, Your dedication for the global
process of human progress.
I believe that our conversation within those round-table discussions,
as foreseen, shall gain the form of permanent document - a printed
publication. Even more firmly I believe that everything that was said
here, everything felt coming out in between the lines, or all those
things that we never managed to mention although we wanted to, will be
presented through the music of the young students performing today and
tomorrow evening during the entire manifestation.
Musicians of the New Millenium-talents of the Balkans, talents of
the world.
I would like to share with you the idea for exactly this kind of
title, dedicated to this Manifestation almost three moths ago. My
long-years experience as music pedagogue and direct participant in the
realization of many segments of the cultural life in Macedonia,
brought me to the following conclusion: the talent is the most
cosmopolitan category which ever existed. The talent, not burdened by
national, religious, state or party belonging, is not depending from
any ones social status. Let me quote Mr. Nikolaj Luganski the
gift is one of the possible proofs for the existence of the spiritual,
or, if you want, of God. A proof for the order and for the hierarchy
that exists within the universe".
That is a border line where we find the connection between the
inevitable. From one side, the arrival of the new time, the new
millenium, from the other, the one simple matter we are obliged to
cherish in ourselves and in our own students - the hope that in this
new millenium the talented men will be citizens of the world. Sounds a
bit idealistic. I am aware of that. But if the progress has been
proven in the complete historical development of the mankind, than it
will not only forget the new time, apart all social state, economical
and other categories that we not only witness, but also live in our
everyday lives.
Finally, speaking those words, I also express the basic position of
the FIJM, which has been intensively focused over the happenings in
our small part of the world in the last ten years.
Can you imagine, if in those two days we understood something more
about each other, how little or how much we know about the countries
of Northern Africa, the Middle East, South America, or how much they
know about us. I am convinced that there are also talented people and
very good musicians. Moreover, there lies our future. In our unity. In
the love of prettiness despite its origin. In the professional
skills and will to maintain and develop the creative ability. In the
spiritual self-respect expressed through the process of clear view
over the spiritual hierarchy, over the firm system of values, like
basic effort for the development of the education, but of the progress
in general.
I have reached those conclusions in over 29 years of my pedagogical
work in only one institution, which, I can freely say, maybe took
important part of my creative and life energy. However, it managed to
return a huge portion of its own creative energy, through the
wonderful contacts with the young people that I had and have the honor
to educate.
Therefore, expressing my gratitude towards this institution let me say
few words about the work of the Music and Ballet High School Center in
Skopje, Macedonia. This institution has been created in 1977 by the
integration of the then existing, Music High School, Music Primary
School and the Ballet School. The organizational structure of the
Center comprises five departments: ballet, piano, strings, winds and
other orchestral instruments and educational-theoretical subjects. In
1977, the Center had 67 professors, while today it has 170 teachers
with average age of 35 years. I would also like to mention the people
who have lead the biggest center of talents in Macedonia: Sonja
Bojadzieva (1977-1980), Manol Janev (since 1999) and Marija Pisinova,
director for almost two decades (1980-1999). In the last ten years the
students of the center, whose number now exceeds the number of 1.400,
aged 6-18 (in all departments) won over 80 awards and prices on
international competitions in various countries all over Europe,
mostly in categories for winds, ballet and first of all, piano. They
are the biggest credit for the positive development of the music
culture in Republic of Macedonia, created by the Music and Ballet
Center. Part of them, especially those who have continued their
studies in Macedonia, will fulfill with music our concerts. The music
tradition in Macedonia, compared with the West-European acceptance of
the music educational system, has history of something more than half
a century, which is relatively limited time period. However, the love
and the affinity towards music expressed through tradition on
spiritual field, are deeply incorporated in the work of the
contemporary Macedonian music composers.
I Believe in those deeps roots, in the process of professional
behavior in all musical fields, a process that becomes more and more
stable as days pass. I believe that the victory of the mind is
inevitable and in that sense, I cheer the global social support for
those roots in a doubtless unity with all of You, including all those
people who work in the name of the bright side of the mankind with
huge passion.
Hoping that this meeting of ours, shall be fruitful in the sense of
future common projects and activities, I wish you a pleasant time and
a lot of good music.
